Getting thoughts in order

This post takes place before the events of Star Sapphire's kidnapping of Hal

It's been a rough few weeks. He went home with a busty waitress the other night, but nothing happened. He couldn't get Ari's face out of his mind, and he didn't think it was right.

Ari wouldn't have minded, he knows. But... he would have minded.

Which is confusing the hell out of him. I mean, the woman was hot, and ready, and willing... and he apologized and left. God knows he wanted her. His body was practically screaming for some female companionship. But he still said no, and walked away.

He needs a drink. Badly. And he's heard that Ari's offworld right now, on vacation with Kilowog. It'd be safe to head back to Warriors.

He steps into the place, slides up to the bar, and orders a beer, then sits and grimaces, looking into his beer.

"You waitin' on it to start dancin for ya or somethin?," says the familiar voice coming over Hal's shoulder.

Hal looks up and grins. "Hey, Guy. How's it going?"

"Can't complain." He took a seat next to Hal.

"Something wrong with one of my beers?" If there was anything Guy prided himself on, it was that Warriors had damn good beer.

He chuckles and shakes his head, sipping his beer. "Never, Guy. Just... thinking."

"More drinking. Less thinking." There was a chuckle from him.

"What's on your mind, man?"

He shrugs. "Women." He pauses. "One woman." He pauses, then offers a small, mischievous grin. "Well, sometimes two."

That earns a raised eyebrow.

"This something I'm gonna have to kick your ass for?"

Cause Hal was cool and all, but if he was doing something that would end up hurting Ari...

He chuckles and shakes his head.

"Ari has Zinda, too, Guy."

He lets that sink in.

"Ah..."

Ok, there's a mental picture starting to form.

"...oh."

And then it becomes clearer.

"Oh!" He grins widely at Hal, "You didn't!"

He shrugs and grins a little into his beer.

"I didn't. Ari did. I just went along for the ride."

"Well, shit." He had to laugh at this, or throttle Hal. Laughter won out for this one.

"Hurry up and finish that beer, next ones' on me."

Hal chuckles and takes another swig of the beer.

"Well, it's not like that right now." He sighs. "I don't know about you, but I'm getting pretty sick of getting mind-controlled and kicking the shit out of my friends."

"You always get your ass kicked in the end, so its no big deal." He paused to take a swig of his own beer.

"What happened?"

"Starro. It used my body to beat the hell out of her." He frowns. "She knows it wasn't me. But... it was a pretty severe beating. She... needs some space right now."

That urge to punch Hal? Its back again.

The only thing that prevents him from going with it is, well, he knows Hal did everything he could to try and stop it.

Still...

"...I should check up on her."

"Yeah. She went on vacation with Zinda and Kilowog." He looks back into his beer.

He was silent for a moment, not entirely sure what to say.

"You know she thinks the universe of you, right?"

"Yeah. Except when I'm mind-controlled into beating the shit out of her. Which seems to happen far too often."

"Would you feel better if I beat the shit outta ya?"

It was an honest question, actually, despite the delivery.

Hal smiles. "I doubt it'd help." He winks. "Even if you could."

That earns a smirk.

"That a challenge?"

He tilts his head to the side a bit. "C'mon, we can take the rings off and have ourselves a good old fashioned bar room brawl!" He had to laugh at the thought. "I can smash a bottle over your head, you can hit me with a stool, I can toss you through the window; we can trash the place and drive my insurance even further through the roof. But I'd kick your ass, so it'd be worth the money."
